PM Khan’s address with ‘good news’ for the nation delayed
The premier meets with the Army Chief before the speech
Prime Minister Imran Khan is addressing the nation today, Monday, February 28, in a televised appearance. His address, however, has been delayed by over one hour.
The address was scheduled to start at 6pm, but when it could not begin PTI Senator Faisal Javed tweeted that the address will begin shortly and the prime minister will announce multiple “good news” for the nation.
State Information Minister Farrukh Habib said the speech will begin at 715pm, SAMAA TV reported.
Before the address, Imran Khan met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Sources said they discussed border management, security situation and the situation in the country.
Speaking to SAMAA TV, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that although he was in Sindh to participate in PTI’s march, he understands that the prime minister and COAS discussed situation in Ukraine and the PM’s Moscow visit.
Earlier, Qureshi told PTI marcher in Jacobabad that the PM is going to make a very big announcement. He advised people to “be ready” since the prime minister would “talk openly from the heart”.

Defence Minister Pervez Khattak claimed Imran Khan would announce a major reduction in fuel prices.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that the PM would take the nation into confidence over economic and international challenges that have emerged after the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Last week, Federal Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said the PM is keeping a close eye on the global crisis and is worried about its influence on energy and commodity markets.
“Ever since his visit back from Russia, the prime minister has been spending day and night chalking out a plan to provide relief to the nation amid these circumstances,” the minister remarked, promising good news soon.
The development comes amid news of another possible increase in petrol prices.
On Thursday, after Putin announced military operation against Ukraine, oil prices pushed past $100 mark. US Brent was trading at $104.25 (or 7.65% high) per barrel. WTI crude was at $98.89 (7.37% high). Oil prices came down on Friday but have increase again.
The Russia-Ukraine crisis has fanned concerns over supplies of key commodities, including wheat, and metals just as demand rallies owing to the reopening of economies after pandemic lockdowns.
The government has been facing criticism from both the opposition and citizens over the record increase in oil prices.
